Elf Movie Night

We had our 2nd movie night of the Christmas season today: Elf! This movie has always been one of my favorites! I actually named my dog in college Jovie because of Zooey Deschanel's character in the movie. I knew my kids would appreciate the silly humor this year!

"I thought maybe we could make ginger bread houses, and eat cookie dough, and go ice skating, and maybe even hold hands!"

We started off with gingerbread houses! The kids surprise me every year with how much they get into them. Nolan did almost every bit of decorating himself, and I only helped Molly with her icing. They both look so cute!

“Some call it 'the show' or 'the big dance;' it's the profession that every elf aspires to—and that is to build toys in Santa's workshop.”

Next, we practiced our elf skills, and make some toys! These little Melissa and Doug kits were perfect. They got to paint and decorate their wooden toys, and then we put them together.

"Can you pass the maple syrup?"
"I...I didn't put it...it's spaghetti."

After our time as elves, we made our plates of spaghetti (minus the maple syrup!) and turned on the movie! Peep the beach towels under their table. I'm not super strict about food in the living room, but I do draw the line at spaghetti. 😂

"You did it! Congratulations! World's best cup of coffeeGreat job, everybody! It's great to meet you."

After we finished our meal, we made the world's best cup of coffee (for the adults) and the world's best cup of cocoa for the kids!

"Oh, man. One got away."
"Snowball."

When we finished the movie, we played this fun little "Elf" snowball game. It's got several rules, so it was hard for Molly to follow, but Nolan and I enjoyed it!

We also have items to take a "You've been Elfed" box to a friend! It was raining all day today, so we will do that on a day when it's not quite as wet.

Overall, it was a super fun movie night to plan around and a fun movie to watch! So many hilarious one-liners. 😂
