Lion King Movie Night

This may come as a surprise to those of you who know how completely NOT Type A personality I am, but I’m a planner. I like to plan just about anything, especially events of any kind. The more into a theme I can get, the happier my heart is. It’s evident in my classroom, birthday parties, and my new found obsession, movie nights!

Shortly after Nora passed away, Rusty and I quickly realized how difficult the month of March would be for us. On one hand, we have Nolan’s 3rd birthday which is sure to be a joyous occasion, but we also would be celebrating Nora’s due date without her. Nolan was so excited about his birthday this year because he was getting “his baby girl”. He couldn’t wait for her to get here.

We decided to plan a Disney trip. A week in the happiest place on earth is sure to soften the blow.

To get prepared and help introduce Nolan to more of the characters, I’ve decided to do a movie night each weekend leading up to our trip! First up was The Lion King. At Animal Kingdom, one of my favorite shows is the Festival of the Lion King, so we wanted Nolan to be familiar with the characters.

First up was getting into character. I used eye liner and drew a Little Lion nose and whiskers on Nolan! He of course wanted me to have some as well. Daddy somehow got out of that one. šŸ˜‰

After that, we worked on our craft, a handprint lion! I started off doing his handprint in yellow, then we mixed yellow and red to make orange. I was going to paint a mane around his handprint, but he loves painting so much I had to let him have a go. He ended up painting alllllll over the handprint, so we just did another handprint later once it was dry. It turned out really cute and is now hanging on our hall closet door.

Next was food. I decided on these sandwiches and then we cut them and arranged them to look like a snake! I like finding things Nolan can help me make on our movie nights and these were perfect. While they were heating up in the oven, we also made Tiger Cub Cuties! Nolan actually drew his lion face on all by himself. I was impressed!

Finally, we ate and watched the movie together. I obviously knew what was going to happen, but I wasn’t prepared for how Nolan would react. When Mufasa died Nolan said, “He wants his daddy to wake up!” šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

We made it past that and ended up having a blast. He really liked the music! We went to an event the next day with a bunch of Disney characters, and at one point he heard “Hakuna Matata” playing and he even said, “Hey, that’s The Lion King!”

Super fun night! Next up I think is going to be Peter Pan!
